Packing and Crating
Good packing is essential for a good move. If you choose to do some or all of your
own packing in preparation for your move, it's especially important that you be
familiar with the techniques that will best protect your possessions. Wheaton Worldwide's
packing tips page will provide you valuable information to assist you in this process.
We have found that many people prefer to have their household possessions, especially
fragile items, professionally packed by a moving company.
Packers who have completed the certification program have:
- 200 hours of supervised on-the-job training
- 30 hours of classroom training
- Mastery of 80 skills associated with the packing process
Some items in your shipment may need custom crating, such as large mirrors, glass-top
tables or chandeliers. While there is usually an additional charge for this service,
crating will provide an additional level of protection for specific items.

Storage Services
Sometimes moving also means storage. If you are getting ready to move and your new
home isn't ready yet, what do you do? Ask your VBO Relo agent about local warehouse
services to store your household belongings.
Offered around the country, specialized storage services provide a safe and easy
solution when you are faced with conflicting real estate timetables. The storage
facilities are clean, secure and provide individual storage vaults for short- or
long-term storage.

Shipment Protection
Protecting your belongings is very important to VBO Relo. You've worked hard to
buy them and when it comes time to move your valued possessions, you want everything
handled carefully to reduce any risk of damage.
Part of your protection is the selection of valuation options from VBO Relo. You
will be offered two options for placing a value on your shipment. The value that
you select sets the limit of your mover's maximum liability for any loss or damage
to your goods.
Option 1 – Full-Value Coverage
This option provides protection for your belongings up to the amount of coverage you declare. This coverage has five deductible levels:
- No Deductible
- $250 Deductible
- $500 Deductible
- $1,000 Deductible
The final charge is based upon the value you declare and the deductible option you select.
Option 2 – Released Rate Liability
With this type of valuation, VBO Relo's maximum liability for loss or damage to each item in the shipment is limited to 60 cents per pound per item.
This is the basic liability level and is provided at no charge.
